Tasting Notes

Dark crimson. Light nose and some freshness. Grainy and appetising ” much more so than the Fremiers and Croix Noires. Lively and satisfying even if there is a little too much oak.
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2033

Unfurling in the glass with a rich bouquet of baked berry fruit, licorice and spices, the 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Grand Clos des Épenots is medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy, with a muscular chassis of stem tannins that lend asperity to the finish. Admirers of the style will claim that it will blossom with time, but this commentator remains unconvinced.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2050
