Tasting Notes
Vinous 88-90
(40 hectoliters per hectare produced from vines that escaped hail damage; totally destemmed): Bright, dark red. Aromas of cherry, raspberry and licorice seem a bit shallow following the Pommard Les Charmots. A juicy, fresh wine with saline flavors of red berries, spices and earth. But the tannins come off as a bit dry and tough owing to the wine’s modest mid-palate depth.
Robert Parker 86-88
“The 2016 Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots comes from young vines, 100% destemmed. It lacked a little fruité on the nose like many Volnays this vintage, strict and a little too serious. The palate is medium-bodied with a little chewiness on the entry, moderate depth but this needs to develop more persistence and rondeur by the time it is in bottle.”
