Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 96
I had tasted this as an unfinished product last year at the conclusion of a fascinating explorative tasting of wine from each of Banfi’s single-vineyard parcels. With that background in mind, my impression of the Castello Banfi 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio all’Oro remains absolutely optimistic. This wine rocks clarity and intensity of aromas. Forest fruit and dried cherry mingle with powdered licorice and camphor ash. The mouthfeel is polished and glossy. The Riserva Poggio all’Oro is fermented in a combination of stainless steel and wood. Some 70% of the total ages in botte, and 30% goes into new French oak. This wine hit the market in October 2019. Some 15,200 bottles were produced.
