Tasting Notes
Vinous 95
Vivid ruby. Captivating aromas of blackcurrant, red cherry, sweet spices and minerals are complemented by a strikingly pure violet nuance. Enters the mouth lush and concentrated, offering sweet dark berry and coffee flavors lifted by notes of black pepper, graphite and Asian spices. Turns more austere on the back half but remains very pure, hinting at uncommon depth and complexity. This classic, elegantly styled BDL finishes long and crisp, with very polished tannins and floral and mineral echoes.

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Beausejour-Duffau Lagarosse 2010 has a compact bouquet with dense black fruit, undergrowth and tobacco that is beautifully defined, fragrant and lifted with real sense of complexity and purpose. The palate has a chewy succulent entry with noticeable alcohol. There are grippy tannins here, and it feels a little forced towards the finish. This needs several years to really show its class and to settle down. Tasted January 2014.

Tasted blind. Opaque garnet. Minty and charry at the same time. Dense, chewy and sweet-fruited in the middle, perhaps a little bit raisiny. Massive but fruit and structure are of equal mass to balance. Very hard to judge how this will age, especially with bottle variation but I think it may be too volatile for a long life, this bottle at least. (JH)
