Olivier Leflaive needs little introduction for those who have followed Burgundy for some time, as this is likely a familiar name. Monsieur Leflaive co-managed Domaine Leflaive with his uncle Vincent through the 1980s and then with his cousin Anne-Claude in the early 1990s.
It was at this time, that he departed the domaine and began to concentrate on Olivier Leflaive Frères, a negotiant business that he started in 1985 and has flourished in recent years. At the start, he owned no vineyards, and instead purchased grapes from selected growers, whilst vinifying, maturing and bottling on-site. Quality here was paramount.
Olivier Leflaive has since acquired his own vineyards; an enviable 15 hectares across Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault. While the Grand Cru wines of Montrachet and Batard-Montrachet deliver eye-watering prices, collectors can welcome the value and quality of the Premier Crus from Meursault, Saint Aubin and Puligny-Montrachet.
Legendary winemaker Franck Grux has recently completed his 32nd vintage and is unquestionably the driving force behind the success of the domaine and is responsible for some of the most delicious whites in the Côte d’Or. These are attractive wines, showing purity and grace, it’s little wonder the domaine has such a devoted following.
